Vultures : bringing them back from extinction

Population of vultures declined due to following reasons:
  • Eating dead animals which have been treated by pain killers "diclofenac"
  • Use of pesticide organochlorides
  • DDT
which all are threatened in India:
  1. white-backed vultures
  2. long billed vultures
  3. slender billed vulture
Latest developments:
Initiative by SAVE "Save the Asia's Vultures from Extinction"
Efforts by Indian Government viz. banning diclofenac, initiatives by IUCN led to control of declining population. As a result todays vultures population are stable
